How GTA 6 was made: what Rockstar told Bloomberg
Who spoke
- Rob Nelson, Phil Hooker and Aaron Garbut, who jointly lead development at Rockstar.
- They spoke to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier for a making-of feature, published in October 2026, five weeks before launch.
What they said
- GTA VI involved deep changes to Rockstar's technology. Garbut called them foundational.
- The engine, tools and team built for GTA VI will be reused, not rebuilt.
- That should make Rockstar's next game much quicker to make than the eight years since Red Dead Redemption 2.
- No next game was named, and no dates were given.
On the 2022 leak
- Garbut said early footage leaking in 2022 felt deeply personal to the team. He likened it to someone "wading through your dirty washing."
What it means for players
- Nothing changes for launch. GTA VI still releases November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version or a date for online. What's confirmed so far: https://leonidafieldguide.com/guide/does-gta-6-have-online-multiplayer-at-launch/

GTA 6 wanted level and police: how it works, per Rockstar
Police only come if someone sees the crime or an alarm goes off. Wanted levels go up to six stars, and cops remember your face, clothes and car, so change them to get away.
