Does GTA 6 have online multiplayer at launch?
Short answer: not as far as anyone knows. Here's what Rockstar has actually said, and what's still open.
What's confirmed
- Rockstar's pre-order materials describe GTA VI as "a single-player experience."
- No online mode, co-op or multiplayer has been announced for the November 19, 2026 launch.
- Rockstar hasn't announced a release date or details for any future online mode.
What GTA V did
GTA V came out on September 17, 2013, and GTA Online followed two weeks later, on October 1, 2013. Rockstar had announced that plan ahead of time. Nothing like that has been announced for GTA VI, so don't count on the same timing.
What about GTA+?
- GTA+ is Rockstar's paid membership, about $7.99 a month in the US. Today its perks are mostly for GTA Online, plus a library of older Rockstar games.
- Digital GTA VI pre-orders include one free month of GTA+. Reports differ on exactly when that month can be redeemed, so check the details in your PlayStation or Xbox account after buying.
- It renews automatically after the free month. Cancel through your console's subscription settings if you don't want to keep it.
Do you need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass?
For a single-player game, you don't need an online subscription to play. If an online mode arrives later, it will almost certainly need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Core/Ultimate, as online play does in other console games.
We'll update this
If Rockstar announces an online mode, we'll add the details here and on the Online topic page.
