GTA 6 weather, hurricanes and wildlife: what Rockstar has confirmed

Rockstar explained the weather and wildlife in Game Informer's September 29, 2026 cover story. Here's what's confirmed.

Weather

• Rockstar rebuilt the weather system so it's local and persistent. It can be clear in one part of Leonida and pouring in another, just like real Florida.
• Clouds are fully dynamic and move across the map.
• Tropical storms and hurricanes are in the game. Big storms bring heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
• Wind is simulated more closely than before. Gusts ripple across water and bend swamp grass.
• Rainbows can show up when the light is right.

Wildlife

• Over 170 animal species, the most in any GTA game.
• That includes more than 60 kinds of birds and more than 30 land mammals.
• The water has sea life too, such as sharks.
• Grassrivers, the game's take on the Everglades, is pitched as the wetland region with the most varied wildlife.

• How often storms and hurricanes happen
• Whether weather changes gameplay, like driving, flying or missions
• Whether hunting works like Red Dead Redemption 2, or which animals you can hunt
